What is it?
Basically it's taking blood from the vein...
Today I went to the medical wards in early morning with the hope to finish signing the remaining four venepuntures in my log book...(I got 3 in the end)
Previously I chose the easy one to take so that I'll not lose my confidence...Today I tried to take the difficult one but fail...I even doubt that I couldn't take the easy one...Most of the time, I was sure that I felt the vein despite it's invisible...However the blood just didn't come out...
There was a 16-year-old girl with the diagnosis of dengue fever. However her veins were not prominent partly due to her petite size. She was very afraid of pain and her mom was watching every step that I did...I got palpitation under her scrutinization...Needless to say, I failed although I was confident...Or should I said my luck wasn't working? I was very upset. However, later on I was told by my friend that it wasn't my problem because even the house officer was taking a long time to take her blood...What a relief..
As a final year student, I know I should practise on difficult patient more often...I guess I'll do that after I complete my log book...Haha...
